The ruin of Takamatsu Castle facing the gentle waves of the Inland Sea is one of the three invincible Mizu-shiros, or water castles protected by water such as a river or sea. Now it is open to the public as Tamamo Park. The main castle building was demolished due to a safety reason, but Tsukimi-yagura, a turret, and Suishu-mon, a ship gate, remain intact and designated as Important Cultural Properties. Hiunkaku, the residence of the landlord is also an Important Cultural Property. There are rooms including Daisyoin, a large drawing room of 142 tatami-mats, Maki-no-ma room, and Matsu-no-ma room. Hiunkaku is open to the public use, and tea ceremonies and flower arrangements lessons are often held there. It is regarded as a hub for citizen’s cultural activities.
