Area Map
Meiji Shrine was built in 1920 to worship Meiji Emperor. The shrine boasts the largest number of visitors at New Year. From Omotesando to walk through under the shrine archway, the relaxing, peace and quiet ambience with a number of big trees alongside the approaching road to the main shrine make you feel as if you are not in the middle of Tokyo. When you are at Meiji shrine, the neighboring Meiji shrine imperial garden is well worth a visit. In the garden there is a famous "power spot" Kiyomasa's well, and a large colony of Japanese iris grown by the spring water is in full bloom in June, welcoming your visit.
